Dr. Gustavo de la Orden Bosch
Gustavo de la Orden Bosch is an associate researcher at the Pedro Arrupe Human Rights Institute of the University of Deusto. During the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, he is completing a research fellowship in the Programme Field of Excellence “Dimensions of Europe”.His research lines focus on the functioning of international systems for the protection of human rights, particularly in the context of migration and the search for international protection, from the perspectives of international law, European Union law, criminal law and criminology. In his doctoral thesis, defended in December 2022, he analysed the securitisation and criminalisation of migration at the borders of the European Union and its impact on the rights of asylum seekers and refugees, with particular reference to the Spanish system of border control, immigration and international protection.
He is a member of the following research projects carried by the Pedro Arrupe Human Rights Institute: “Human rights and socio-cultural challenges in a changing world”, funded by the Basque Government (Retos IT1468-22 -Group A-); “The European Pact on Migration and Asylum and the Mediterranean States in the post-Covid context (EURASYLUM II)”, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (2021/2025) (DER 113999RB-100). He teaches in the Faculty of Law and in two Masters degrees (Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Human Rights Policy and Practice; Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in International Humanitarian Action), both of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the University of Deusto.
