Mirco Buoso, Mag. Dott.

Mirco Buoso is the principal researcher for Subproject 6, within Research Unit 2 and is a doctoral candidate in Law and Politics at the University of Graz. In addition, he holds the position of Cultore della Materia (Teaching Fellow) at the University of Bologna.

Mirco’s areas of research specialization include borders, migration, social control, and border externalization processes, especially in the EU and MENA region. He analyses these topics from an interdisciplinary perspective ranging from critical criminology and zemiology to international relations and international law studies. He is particularly interested in exploring the dynamics and processes behind the creation of complex and transnational systems of human mobility control, as well as investigating the consequences at the micro and meso levels produced by these border regimes.

Mirco obtained his M.A. in International Relations cum Laude and his B.A. in International Development and Cooperation from the University of Bologna. Recognitions include B.I.M Oglio’s Graduation Award for Outstanding Students (2021), shortlisted for the Border Criminologies Master Dissertation Prize by Oxford University (2021), a Merit Mention by the University of Bologna (2020), and a Study Abroad Scholarship at the American University of Beirut (2019).
